SPIKE FIREFLY from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems is a compact, precision loitering munition designed for tactical engagements, particularly in dense urban areas. Optimized for Beyond-Line-of-Sight engagement, it delivers precise effects against time-sensitive or high-value targets by combining autonomous guidance, dual electro-optical (EO/IR) targeting, and a man-in-the-loop control system.

Key Capabilities

1. Precision Engagement

Equipped with a dual EO/IR seeker (CMOS daylight and uncooled thermal imager), SPIKE FIREFLY provides real-time imaging and target confirmation. This allows operators to verify and prosecute targets with minimal collateral risk, even in low-visibility conditions or when targets are behind cover.

2. Rapid Deployment

Its compact, rugged, and lightweight design (3 kg) supports fast launch sequences from a soldier-carried canister. The entire system kit, including three munitions, a control unit, and batteries, weighs approximately 15 kg.

3. Autonomous Loiter and Guidance

The munition has autonomous loitering and waypoint navigation capabilities, allowing it to search, track, and engage targets with minimal operator input. The man-in-the-loop control allows for intuitive operation via a tablet console and can be aborted at any time before the final attack.

4. Tactical Flexibility

SPIKE FIREFLY is effective in both urban and open terrain. It can act as a scout, with the warhead replaced by a second battery to double its endurance for reconnaissance. It is also returnable to the operator if the target is not engaged.
