July 12, 2025 (SEATTLE, Wash.) – Amazon announced today a major expansion of its Prime Air drone delivery program, which will now reach 50 additional cities across the United States. This move significantly broadens the company’s commitment to fast, efficient, and environmentally-friendly delivery using cutting-edge autonomous aerial technology.

“We’re bringing the future of delivery to doorsteps faster than ever,” said David Carbon, Vice President of Prime Air. “By expanding our drone network to 50 more cities, we’re one step closer to delivering packages in under 30 minutes to millions of customers.”

The expanded rollout follows successful drone delivery operations in test cities like Lockeford, California and College Station, Texas. Building on these learnings, Amazon is scaling its next-generation MK30 drone, which features:

- Improved range and all-weather capability

- Enhanced obstacle avoidance systems

- Reduced noise profile for suburban and urban areas

Prime Air’s drone deliveries are designed for packages under five pounds, which account for over 85% of Amazon orders. Customers in eligible locations will be able to choose drone delivery during checkout, receiving their orders via safe, autonomous drop-offs in their backyards or designated landing zones.

This initiative aligns with Amazon’s goal of becoming net-zero carbon by 2040, as electric drones offer a lower-emission alternative to traditional delivery vehicles. By streamlining last-mile logistics with aerial delivery, Amazon aims to reduce congestion, speed up delivery windows, and improve overall customer satisfaction.

The expansion will be accompanied by community outreach programs, local partnerships, and regulatory collaboration to ensure safe and seamless drone operations across diverse environments.
